Did I tell you I broke my camera this trip?
I had a wonderful plan of blogging everyday and recording my travels, but then my camera broke. By the time amazon expedited my replacement over -which is another headache on it's own-, my trip was practically over. I lost all my LA and Vegas trip, but somehow managed to save a lot of food pictures from Toronto.
Toronto is really where my heart lies.

Today I took the plunge. Quite literally.
I've always believed, but my faith wasn't always strong. The last four years have been a period of growth and change, of learning and questioning. I've been blessed with a group of amazing brothers and sisters who have supported my walk every step of the way. More importantly, I have learned to lean on His strength and to follow His plan for me with the goal of bringing Him glory.
To be honest, getting baptized is something that I've felt called to do since I was young. Dealing with years of shy-ness and stage fright prevented me from standing on stage to share my testimony. I remember clapping for others as they got baptized, wishing I had the courage to take the plunge. Today I finally decided that it was no longer something I could ignore, and somehow He gave me the courage to declare my dedication to Him as my Lord and Savior. Praise the Lord.
For the Lord is good and His love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues through all generations.

The new addition to my cousin's happy family is a fiesty (not so little) turtle named Nigel, although Chloe insists his name is Tchaikovsky. We can't figure out his age or if Nigella would be more appropriate, but we do know he loves long tans on his rock. My cousin also promised that I could go over and visit any time I wanted!
But in all seriousness, I don't think I ever really appreciated how much work a pet can be. Even a turtle that doesn't really move or do much can take a lot of energy to support. From the perspective of time and of money, it's a big commitment. I've wanted a turtle for ages, but honestly lack the time and the patience to take care of one. It was a very sobering realization for me that the idea of something is sometimes more entertaining than reality. That and everything requires hard work and commitment.

One sunny Tuesday morning, I ventured out of the bustling downtown Los Angeles in search of something a little quieter and removed from the Hollywood Chaos.
Donated by J. Paul Getty, this museum has been around for quite some time, but for some reason, I've only just found out about it recently.
Entrance is free, but you have to pre-book tickets online and pay $15 for parking. We picked a cold day to drop by, which also meant less crowds and more time to casually stroll around to admire the exhibits.
There's a whole story surrounding this villa and how it is based off the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum. Having studied ancient architecture in University and an affinity for Roman history, I felt like a kid in a candy store the moment I walked in.
Ionic and Corinthian columns bring me right back to ARTH123.
Housed in this complex are thousands of artifacts which have been collected and obtained over many years by the Getty family. It's simply amazing to think that these things were made without the use of modern tools and that they were used by people thousands and thousands of years ago.
I can barely wrap my head around the idea that when these items were made and used in a time where everything was completely different from what we are used to. Imagine touching one of these objects and knowing that some person thousands of years ago touched it too.
From the perspective of skill and technique, it's amazing as well. To think that all these objects were handmade, and the process discovered from scratch, is absolutely mindblowing.
We spent our entire day there and didn't get to see half the things that were on display. After a week of insane Los Angeles driving and crowded places, this place was just the perfect little getaway.
